time with family

since being in ohio, we have been able to spend time with brian's extended family.  kristin, one of brian's cousins, has two children.  jenna-2 1/2 and grant-1.  they are so sweet and we have been lucky to have time to play with them.  oakley really enjoys both jenna and grant and talks about them all the time.  we had the opportunity to go to grant's first birthday party (and now oakley asks to sing grant the birthday song every night when we read books.  haha!), and we had a couple playdates at "our" house and kristin and drew's (her husband) house, too.

most recently, kristin had the brilliant idea to take the kids to a botanical gardens-type place.  it was a gorgeous day and we were so excited to do something different.  there was a water play area, complete with a waterfall, a little creek and a cave for the kids to play in.  we spent most of our time here.  there was an area to dig in the dirt, use a water pump to get water for watering flowers, a sand play area, and a "music walk" through the flowers (the kids could play the mandolin, a wooden gong-type instrument, drums, and some others i can't remember).  it was really cool and totally tailored to kids.  we had a picnic halfway through our time there.  it was a perfect day!  i do have to mention, though, my beloved flip flops broke while we were there and i spent the last half of the time barefoot.  annoying, but funny looking back at it!  i promptly scrubbed my feet when we got home. :)
