on wednesday, i got a call from melissa. she told me she and matt decided it would be best if she stayed home with lawson. i was planning on watching him 3 days a week, starting in february, while melissa went to work. we were excited to have a teeny baby at our house for a few months, but being the stay-at-home type, i totally understand where mel is coming from! she said it would just be too hard to leave him. i've been there and it's so hard. so! we are so excited for her to be able to stay home with lawson to soak up these precious moments with him.
even though we are excited for their family, it changes things for our family a little bit. i was not necessarily counting on the income from watching lawson, but it was going to give us a little cushion . i felt bad charging them to start with! i was thinking about taking on another child on the days i don't work at the office. after thinking about it, it doesn't make sense. i would have to watch three kids to bring home what i make working at the office. so we were thinking i would take on one more day at the office, then i'll still have two days at home with oakley. then on thursday, another curveball...
my car broke down. on the highway. with my two-year-old in it. it was horrible. and embarrassing. and scary. and oakley peed in his carseat after telling me he had to go twice. i felt horrible. but i was not about to get him out of the car and have him go on the side of the highway. we were driving home from having lunch with my mom, matt, mel, lawson and brian. we were on 435 and i heard a loud POP and then a thumping noise. i thought, "did i just hit something??" and realized if there was a pop that loud, i would have surely noticed whatever it was that i hit. then, every time i hit the gas, the thumping got louder. and then the car started to shake a little. i gave in and pulled over. on the side of the highway. called brian and matt. brian called the tow truck company and motorist assist and headed back our way. matt and melissa pulled up behind us about 25 min later to get me and oakley off the side of the road. we hooked up o's carseat and they took us home. brian met the tow truck there and they brought the car home. oakley was thrilled to see a tow truck in action and was asking questions about every three seconds. it was pretty neat. the car sounds horrible when we start it and brian has been
so, with all of that said, i went to work yesterday, ready to ask kelly if i could work more days to help pay for the expenses that are headed our way. it turns out that rachelle is feeling ready to focus solely on her photography business, so i will be taking her hours and i will transistion to full-time (4 days per week) by the first of april. i am sad to be going back to work, because i really love being home with oakley and keeping our home organized. but, i have to keep the best interests of my family in mind. staying at home would be a bit selfish on my part. hopefully, it won't be long-term, but we'll see!
we found a fabulous caretaker for oakley. she runs a daycare in her home and is the most compassionate, tender-hearted person i've met in a long time. she's perfect for oakley and his personality. and she's teaching him while he's there. it's a perfect setup. better yet, greyson will be going there, too! oakley is so excited to get to play with greyson all the time. they are going to be best buddies!
so, needless to say, there have been a crazy turn of events over the past few days, but things are already falling into place. the Lord is steering us in a direction i was not expecting, but i am so excited for our future. i know He is doing good things!
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
