the sun will come out

so i decided all of these posts have been so "happy" lately; i really need to tell it how it is.  not that we aren't happy, but this whole moving/transition thing has been really stressful for everyone.  mostly for the 2 year old.

before all of the changes, oakley was such a well-behaved, laid back child.  throw packing up our stuff, moving away from everything familiar, and living in a house with other people into the mix, and we've got a hot mess on our hands.  i do have to say oakley has been trying to deal with this (he still has a lot of sweet moments), but sometimes it's just too much for him to handle.  he does well some days and other days are just plain rough.  brian and i have decided this life situation has pulled out a new, not-so-good side of oakley.  he's started to hit and push koa, gets into these crazy uncontrollable and destructive moods, yells and disobeys a lot.  it's taking a toll on all of us because he's never been like this before.  i'm exhausted.  i hit my limit the other day and put oakley in time out in his room (more for myself than oakley).  i got in his face and talked to him in a really mean-mommy voice.  it broke my heart and i almost felt like i needed to apologize to him afterward, but when his timeout was over, he behaved so much better.  so, i've been using that method more frequently, minus the crazy mean-mommy voice, and it seems to be working.  i am so ready for this transition time to be over.  we all are.

joey, ellen and koa are so sweet to allow us to invade their space for a while.  i know it has to be hard to have another family live under the same roof with them.  it's fun to have people to hang out with (and for me and ellen, having a workout partner), but i'm sure they are ready to have their house back!  soon, we'll have a place of our own and all of our lives can get back to normal.

sorry for the depressing post, i just felt like i needed to be real.  it's life.  and it will work itself out.  but for now, we just wait until the timing is right.

now that i think about it, maybe we just have a "normal" two-year-old on our hands.  i sure hope we get our oakley back once things calm down.

  1. Coming from someone who knows all about unruly 2 year olds...and 3 year olds...and transitions, and moving etc....I think it just really throws them off. Aidan has had some major adjustment periods with Nora being born and then moving. But, at the same time, as they get older, they exhibit more and more independence and test the limits. You probably have a good mixture of both. So, been there, done that, and am still doing it. :) We are going to be moving again in 2 months to a new place (hopefully) and I'm sure it will be a whole new transition for both kids. Love the anniversary pictures by the way. And, love your dress. Sounds like a wonderful time!

  2. Thanks, Krista. Sometimes it's just nice to hear someone else is going through the same thing...and that my 2 year old is "normal." We'll get through it with time. Good luck with your move! I hope it is a smooth transition for you guys. LOVED your beach pics of Nora. She's a doll!
